Ten Thousand Photographs

“Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst”. Henri Cartier Bresson.

While downloading photographs from a recent trip to West Virginia I realized that I had achieved the landmark 10,000 photographs, which, per Henri’s quote, suggests that it’s all plain sailing from here on.  If I were to believe Henri, (and who could argue with the Master), every photograph I take from this point forward must be good.  Alas, after looking at image 10,001, 1002, 1003, etc. etc. I have to say that Henri must have had a Chardonay too many when he came up with that little ditty.  They don’t look any different from image 7,000, 8,000 or, for that matter 9,000.

The image that accompanies this post was made from photograph 9,999.

  1. Shit, I still have a couple thousand pieces of crap left to go, then

  2. If my crap was as good as your crap Chuck I would be one hell of a happy photographer 🙂

  3. That’s for the humorous insight to this….

  4. But you have to laugh Jeff… Its much better than the alternative – and believe me, I’ve cried enough about my photography already… Sad thing is, I dont think im done crying just yet…..

  5. Congratulations. Get a “10k” sticker and put it on your rear bumper. At least people will think you’re an athlete.

  6. That wouldnt be a good idea Shaun. People will see the sticker and when I get out of the car they will think I have stolen it 🙂

  7. I fully understand, Arthur. I used to run marathons in my thirties. I see lots of cars with a “26.2” sticker on the back and think, “I’ve earned one of those stickers”. Then I think how incredulous people would be when they see me get out of the car.
